Andermatt - The Heart of the Alps

Andermatt, found in Canton Uri is a fast growing ski resort with plenty of reasons to visit.

With a ski area of 120km and an abundance of off piste skiing available, there is plenty to keep you entertained for any length of time. Not only that, but developments (130 million Francs worth!) are in progress and a much larger ski area is promised to be open by the 2017/18 season.
There is currently 5 different ski areas in the area, all covered by the same ski pass and each with something different to offer.

Andermatt-Gemsstock is an experienced skier's heaven. Sitting at nearly 3000m it has been known by and popular with freeriders from all over the world for years. It is also home to what is described by skiing legend Bernhard Russi as one of the finest downhill runs in the Alps. Combine the above with an awesome freestyle park then there is more than enough to satisfy those in search of an adrenaline rush.

Next is the Andermatt-Nätschen ski area. Connected to Andermatt via a chairlift that goes into the town, Nätschen is regarded as a great place for families to ski. It's slopes are all varied in terms of difficulty and when the sun is out it's the perfect place to ski. Conditions couldn't be better. There is also the well known, 5km 'flying toboggan' run that takes you right back down in Andermatt, excellent for some variety for the kids (or adults!).

Realp is the best area in resort for beginners. If you are looking to try something new, teach the kids or just brush up on your own technique then head over to Realp where the gentle slopes give you the best opportunity to practice safely.

Sedrun-Oberalp offers something for everyone, from beginners to experts. In particular, it is known for its freestyle areas. With snow parks, a 100m half pipe and also a ski cross and snowboard cross course, featuring rollers, tables, jumps and steep turns, it is bound to test even the best riders to their limit.

Finally, there is the Sedrun-Valtgeva area. It is another ideal area for families looking to find their feet. There is a great tubing run and a couple of lifts for people who are looking to improve their sport.
