The Swatch Skiers Cup returns to Zermatt!

After an intense selection process, the team captains for Europe and the Americas have unveiled the eight elite skiers they will bring to Zermatt, Switzerland for the unique intercontinental team battle in anticipation of the 5th edition of the Swatch Skiers Cup which will be held from February 21-27, 2015.

The fifth edition of the Swatch Skiers Cup will be marked by the loss of one of skiings most remarkable and truly inspirational human beings, JP Auclair (CAN), former captain of Team Americas who won the competition last winter. He passed away in an avalanche accident late September together with fellow freeskier Andreas Fransson, in Patagonia. In honor of his person and role in creating a whole new era of skiing at the entrance to this millennium, this edition of the Skiers Cup will be dedicated in memoriam of JP Auclair.




The event is a freeski duel between the two continents, the action is based around backcountry slopestyle and the entertainment in the village is open to everyone, which gives the event a special atmosphere. Snow conditions, shortly before the event takes place, will determine the exact location of the event.

The new Gotthard Tunnel Exprerience - Gottardino Train

  The opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel – a milestone of worldwide significance and a public festival for all ages. The main purpose of the Gotthard Base Tunnel is to increase total transport capacity across the Alps, especially for freight, notably on the Rotterdam-Basel-Genoa corridor, and more particularly to shift freight volumes from road to rail to reduce fatal crashes and environmental damage caused by ever-increasing numbers of heavy lorries. Another benefit will be to provide a faster connection between the canton of Ticino and the rest of Switzerland, as well as between northern and southern Europe, cutting the Zurich-Lugano-Milan journey time for passenger trains by about an hour and from Lucerne to Bellinzona to 1 hour 25 minutes this is because passenger trains will be able to travel up to 250 km/h (155.3 mph) through the GBT and an estimated 200-250 trains per day will go through the tunnel. Andermatt - Steep and Deep

With over  thirty top Swiss ski resorts to choose from at  www.otp.co.uk , it can be hard to know which one is right for you.  So, to help you decide, we will be doing a blog focusing on a particular resort and its merits. This week, we take a look at Andermatt. Andermatt is a very diverse resort in Central Switzerland. It consists of two very different ski areas which span across the cantons of Uri and Graubünden. These two areas are the Gemsstock mountain and the Andermatt-Oberalp-Sedrun area. Whilst the former is an absolute haven for freeriders, the latter provides a more leisurely experience with wide, intermediate pistes, two nursery slopes, three toboggan runs and a whole host of mountain restaurants.  Initially a sleepy Swiss village, the area has been transformed by the construction of the award-winning luxury hotel, the Chedi Andermatt, in 2013.
